LIKE.....TOTALLY.....YA.....LIKE

Have you ever listened to how much 'like' is used in daily dialogue now? I am sure it must fast be becoming the most-used word in the english language! I have long thought our capacity for language and vocabulary is being destroyed by a dumbing down process - especially achieved via the media. According to the web 'like' is placed at 64th in the top most used english words.
I have listened to the youth around me begin to talk in fragmented sentences...almost regressing to child-like sentence structure. I cannot quite believe just how the use of 'like' and 'ya' has grown to epidemic scales. Although I had originally suspected that this particular discourse was indicative of female use of language, I now realise this epidemic is wildly out of control. It appears to be infecting society without any discern for age, gender, class or education.

I find it incredible to listen to people today and wonder at what is happening to our once very expressive language. I truly believe the media is largely responsible for covertly transforming how language is used, I can also not ignore the fact that book reading (and the quality of literature read) has declined dramatically in our society.

1/3 of high school graduates never read another book for the rest of their lives.
42 percent of college graduates never read another book after college.
80 percent of U.S. families did not buy or read a book last year.
70 percent of U.S. adults have not been in a bookstore in the last five years.
57 percent of new books are not read to completion.

More young people today will electively choose to spend their leisure time absorbed in any activity other then reading literature. The 'average' 13 year old would prefer to watch TV, play digital video games or immerse themselves in social network sites where a new abbreviated language is privileged!

Well, I like totally think that is like so wrong. Like ya, totally!

Mr Bush.....Mr President (ex)....AKA The Chimp!

Okay...so it was a little 'playful' to choose an image of George Bush for my post titled "Lost a Moron"......

but you have to admit it is somehow quite fitting!

"Lost a Moron"!

Our room-mate has gone out for the night............does this mean we have "lost a moron"?

Well, I think we have too many morons to lose a few on a Friday night......wishful thinking!!!!

I am losing any sense of reality, I am sinking in a sea of people who think their 'free choice' is to live like morons!

What the Tweet??

Well you can now find me, and follow me, on Twitter. I decided that it was about time that I got in on the action, however after spending a couple of hours perusing twitter.........I am still not sure just what it is all about!!??

How is just 'tweeting' in 140 characters, leaving a banal, verbal trail........of any real interest to anyone? It does appear that it is just another mindless social network that isn't really social in the sense that ordinary people just follow celebs and businesses just try and push their wares!

Still I shall keep tweeting for a while to see how it could change my life!!

Proud to be a Pastafarian!

I have found my God........... and from now on shall choose to follow the faith of the Flying Spaghetti Monster! All praise our great meatballs and spaghetti...hallelujah!

Existentialism rocks!!!

Is a non-conformist an existentialist? I came across the philosophy of existentialism a few years ago and it jumped out to me as an explanation for how I could justify doing things differently, or doing them MY way, even if this seemed to go against the 'norms' and conventions of society.

"Existentialism is the search and journey for true self and true personal meaning in life.

Most importantly, it is the arbitrary act that existentialism finds most objectionable-that is, when someone or society tries to impose or demand that their beliefs, values, or rules be faithfully accepted and obeyed. Existentialists believe this destroys individualism and makes a person become whatever the people in power desire thus they are dehumanized and reduced to being an object. Existentialism then stresses that a person’s judgment is the determining factor for what is to be believed rather than by arbitrary religious or secular world values."

Allergic to the 21st Century?

I have begun to wonder if I may be allergic to the 21st century, and if I have developed a malaise for postmodernity! In other words……..has the world gone mad??

People seem to becoming more shallow and isolated, indifferent to the ‘real’ world around them but happier to live in the simulacra of a media-infused hyperreality.

When I acknowledge that the mainstream news is but a construct, and that the populous would rather observe Katie Price and the X-Factor, then I guess we know that all rationality has ceased and we are living in the age of the absurd!

I can live without a mobile phone and television, and I do not have to shop all the time for things that I really do not need.
